The Flatwoods monster, also known as the Braxton County Monster or the Green Monster, is a mysterious entity that has been the subject of numerous sightings and reported encounters since it was first seen in Flatwoods, West Virginia, in 1952.

The Flatwoods monster is described as being around 7 feet tall with a black body and a glowing green head shaped like a spade or a diamond. It has glowing red eyes and long spindly arms that end in claw-like hands. Witnesses have also reported a sickly, sweet smell emanating from the creature.

The most famous encounter with the Flatwoods monster occurred on September 12th, 1952, when a group of seven children playing in a field near their school witnessed a bright object fall from the sky and land on a nearby hill. Curious, the children decided to investigate and were joined by a local woman and her two sons.

As they approached the hill toward a pulsating red light, they caught a glimpse of the Flatwoods monster, which they described as a “big, bright, shining thing.” Terrified, they ran back to the school to tell their principal what they had seen. The principal contacted the local sheriff, who investigated the scene but found no evidence of the creature.

Since that encounter, there have been numerous other reports of the Flatwoods monster, including sightings in other parts of West Virginia as well as in neighboring states like Maryland and Pennsylvania. Some people believe the creature is an extraterrestrial, while others think it may be a cryptid.
