In the Polish village of Nowe Czarnowo lies a grove of several hundred hundred pine trees with a very peculiar appearance. The trees planted around 1930 have since grown in an odd manner. Each tree deviates horizontally for 3 to 9 feet just above its base before curving backward again and continuing toward the sky forming what looks like a giant fishing hook. Stranger still is the fact that the grove of pines is surrounded by a forest of others that don’t share their odd characteristics.

Some believe the strange growth pattern to be the result of some human intervention, others say it was caused by the weight of a snowstorm, but there is no evidence of either and to this day the cause of the crooked forest remains a mystery.
